Siemens to "withdraw entirely from the nuclear industry" in a decade

In the remarkable development, CEO chief executive Peter Loescher stated that the Fukushima disaster has prompted the company to get out of the nuclear industry altogether.

"A long-planned joint venture with Russian nuclear firm Rosatom would also be cancelled, although Mr Loescher said he would still seek to work with their partner "in other fields"."

Siemens also has a clear plan in place to decommission the nation's 17 nuclear reactors by the year 2022.

Makes you wonder if Siemens employed a serious risk management assessment into their decision making process, and deemed the likelihood of ensuring future safety as unsustainable.
